The Suffering Christ
THE SUFFERING OF CHRIST - THE GLORY THAT WILL FOLLOW
1st. Peter 1:1-11
As we consider this passage in light of God's sovereign grace, we can think of ourselves as having nothing to do in the plan and program of God, but only our acceptance of such a plan and program. While we generally consider a passage from its beginning, I would like us to consider this passage from the last verse that we read: Vs.11. This verse presents the core of God's plan of salvation by the suffering of Christ, and the abundant life to be realized by the children of God. In the glory that would follow.
These words were spoken by the prophets because of the Spirit of Christ which was in them, or moved upon them. Someone will say did not the Holy Spirit came on the Day of Pentecost?. The Holy Spirit came on the Day of Pentecost, to indwelt , to guide to enable the believer to glorify God in maters of faith and practice, and to glorify God. But when we thing of the Spirit we think of the third person of the godhead. I Gen 1.27 God said, "Let us make man" this include the three persons of the God head. In Acts. 7:37-38 the apostle said Moses said A prophet shall the Lord God raise up unto you ..Here we see Jesus Christ with Israel in the wilderness.
Now we will like to consider the suffering of Christ spoken by the prophets, but which one could we turn to. I know most us have read Isaiah 53.5, He was wounded for our transgressions, Isaiah 52.14, His visage was so marred . In Matt. 16:21 Jesus said He must go to Jerusalem, suffer many things, be killed, and be raised up the third day. Matt. 21, Jesus went, Matt. 27; 33-35 Jesus was killed, Matt. 28. Jesus rose from the grave. There were seven cries on the cross.
1-My God , My God why hast Thou forsaken me . Matt.27.46, Mark 15.34 Scorned by man, by God forsaken
2-Father forgive them for they know not what they do. Luke 23.34. the compassionate Christ.
3-Today shall thou be with me in paradise. Luke 23.43. the consolation of Christ.
4-Father into thy hand I commit my spirit. Luke 23.46. Not my will but Thine done.
5-Women behold by son. John 19.26. What a sight.
6-I thirst. John 19.28 and last of all
7-It is finish. John 19.30. The work is done.
Now for the glory that will follow.
1-The glory by His resurrection Act. 2.24, 2- The glory by His exaltation Acts.2.33..
3-The glory by His Intercession Heb. 9.24, 4- The glory by our approach to God in contrast to Israel. Lev.16. c.f 2nd Cor. 3..
5- The glory of our inheritance, wisdom, knowledge, the present enjoyment and future hope. 6- the glory that shall be revealed Rom. 8;18 Receiving the end of our faith even the salvation of our souls. SALVATION; PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE. "THAT WILL BE GLORY FOR ME".
