Personal Testimony
My name is Joseph Jeremiah. I was born of Christian Parents in the Island of Grenada. As far as I can remember they were involved in assembly ministry and were some of the pioneers in the establishment of eight assemblies on the Island. Being in a Christian home presented many opportunities to learn from the Bible at an early age, and therefore I learned many Bible stories at home and at Sunday School. Though we would walk seven miles round trip to Sunday School, the knowledge gained cannot be substituted. However, being a preacher's kid ( PK) does not automatically make one Christian, and I was not one. I loved to hang out with the boys on the street, but because of family restrictions I was limited in my participation in their activities. My parents were strict, but always disciplined us in a Biblical way. (Proverbs 13.24 and Proverbs 22.6). According to the providence and grace of God, I attended an annual conference of the assemblies on New Year's Day when I was 21. In the evening session a brother who has since gone to be with the Lord gave a message in the gospel from Luke 13:6-9.The subject was a parable spoken by our Lord Jesus Christ about a man who planted a fig tree, and then for three years he came seeking fruit from that tree but found none. He said to the dresser (the one who was taking care of the garden) to cut it down because there was no fruit for three years. But the dresser said let it alone for one year, if it bore fruit then he would allow it to remain, but if not then he would cut it down. There at the conference I began to think as to how many times I had heard the gospel and never received Christ in my heart as my Saviour. Then Proverbs 29.1 came to me: "He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy." But, I said, "the fig tree had one more year and therefore I too may have one more year before I need trust in Christ as my Saviour." After all, this is New Year's Day- but a second thought came to me, saying "suppose last year was my last year?", then Proverbs 29.1 could be in effect, and if so where would I spend eternity?. With this, I surrendered my life to Christ and received Him as my Saviour and Lord. It was not long after that I was baptized and brought into the fellowship of believers. Not long after that I joined myself to a missionary who discipled me, and took me along with him in the ministry of evangelism until I began preaching in Grenada and other Caribbean Islands. I then moved to the U S Virgin Islands to help out in a little assembly for some time, and then moved to the United States to join one of my brothers in the Lord's work. While in the US I worked in a secular profession in the accounting field with private companies, until I became a U S Citizen by naturalization. I then accepted a job with the Federal Government as a civil servant in the Government Finance Offices. In 1990 I was exercised to spend my life in full time service for the Lord and was commended by the assembly as an Itinerant Evangelist for the preaching and teaching of God's word, through out the U S and elsewhere. This is the ministry in which I am currently involved. As to my family, I have a wife and two grown up daughters. Your prayers will be greatly appreciated, "that in all things He might have the preeminence." Col. 1:18
