Providence and Grace
Divine Providence and Grace - As seen in the lives of Naomi and Ruth the Moabite
1-The Departure of Naomi:
Chapter 1: 1-2, Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Beth-lehem-judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. We can think that their moving to the land of Moab was for economic reasons, as many will do in times of depression.
Death in the family, Noami lost her husband and her two sons, the bread winners passed away. Now only to be with her two daughters in law, but she heard in the country of Moab how that the Lord had visited his people in giving them bread, so now we see.
3-The Decision of Noami because of Good News.
Chapter 1: 6-13 She arose with her daughters in law to return to Bethlehem, and they went forth out of the place where they were to return , both Ruth and Orpah, but she would not force then to go, they must make their own choice. We can say of Orpah, she was inclined to go, she made a step go, but she made he wrong choice, she went back to her gods, to her people who worship Idols. She could have been in an environment where she would learn the things of God,. have fellowship with those that know and love God, but she failed, and denied herself a wonderful opportunity to serve God and to be blessed by Him..
4- The Choice of Ruth. The True God
Chapter 1: 14-15 Ruth and Orpah lifted up their voice and wept , Orpah kissed her mother in law, but Ruth clave unto her. Noami said Behold thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. Again Noami would not force Ruth to come with her for this is a personal choice.
5- The Commitment of Ruth. Fully persuaded.
Chapter l: 16-22. Ruth said Entreat me not to leave thee, whither thou goest I will go, thy people shall be my people and thy God my God.
6- The Contentment of Ruth. Fully satisfied.
Chapter 2: 1-7 Ruth found employment with a rich man who is a Kinsman/Redeemer to her.
7- The Caring of Ruth. Fully Appreciated.
Chapter 2: 8-10 Boaz her kinsman/Redeemer made provision for and give protection to Ruth.
8- The Comfort of Ruth. Fully Informed.
Chapter 2; 11-13 Boaz explained his knowledge of her and her step of faith in coming unto a people she did not know before. But all of the blessing came by her choice in the land of Moab.
All of this speaks of our relationship with the God of heaven, and the importance in making the right choice. In the land of Moab they heard of God's provision We can say today that God by His grace has given us the knowledge of His provision for our salvation as we read John 3;16. There are only two choices: Accepting Christ as Saviour or Rejecting Christ and remaining in your old life style, if so you will miss the many blessings God has for those who make the right choice. We encourage you to follow Christ. All will be well, there is no disappointment with God.
